Miley Cyrus Reacts to Nicki Minaj's "Bitch" Threat During VMAs 2015 Live Broadcast: GIF

More like what's really not good? Nicki Minaj shockingly ripped Miley Cyrus as a "bitch" onstage during the live broadcast of the 2015 MTV VMAs on Sunday, Aug. 30, and naturally like the rest of Us, the show host was stunned.
A viral GIF from the moment shows Cyrus, 22, standing to the side while Minaj, 32, accepted the Moonman for Best Hip Hop music video for "Anaconda." While all seemed usual with the rest of Minaj's acceptance speech, the tail end got alarmingly heated. Click here to see all of Miley’s ridiculously revealing VMA’s looks.

“And now... back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me in the press," Minaj said, as the smile on Cyrus' face immediately waned. "Miley, what’s good?"

Cyrus had nothing to say as she looked dumbfounded just like several members of the audience behind her, then proceeded to pick up the pieces like a true pro. "Hey, we are all in this industry and we all do interviews and say s--t," the "Wrecking Ball" singer replied from an opposite stage. “Nicki, congratuf--kinglations.”
As evidenced on live television, Minaj angrily pointed her long manicured nails and mouthed in response (several times!), "Don’t play with me, bitch!"

Minaj's anger stems from a New York Times interview conducted last Thursday, in which Cyrus was asked about the rapper's Twitter spat with Taylor Swift.
"I saw that. I didn’t really get into it. I know there was some beef," Cyrus said about Minaj's VMAs tweets during a loaded Q&A. "I don’t really know. There’s a way to talk to people... What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite. I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love."

White House Responds to Kanye West's 2020 Presidential Bid

During the 2015 MTV VMAs on Sunday (August 30), Kanye West made a surprise announcement that he would be running for president in 2020.
Now, the White House is responding to the 38-year-old entertainer’s bid for the seat in the 2020 election.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was aboard Air Force One with President Obama on Monday (August 31) when he told the AP that he was looking “forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat.”
Kanye once told Oxford University students that the President “calls the home phone” to speak with him, which the President later denied on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Not an act! Nicki Minaj wasn't kidding when she confronted 2015 VMAs hostess Miley Cyrus during the live broadcast on Sunday, Aug. 30. After the "Anaconda" rapper called the pop star a "bitch" for talking about her in the press, some people wondered whether the onstage tiff was part of a pre-planned bit between them. But a source tells Us Weekly that there was nothing fake about Minaj's rage.

The Real Reason Justin Bieber Cried After His VMAs Performance

The Real Reason Justin Bieber Cried After His VMAs Performance

It wasn't because he flew for the first time.

Headshot of Julia Brucculieri
Entertainment Writer, The Huffington Post

After performing at the VMAs for the first time since he was "that sweet kid with the haircut," Justin Bieber broke down in tears.
When the crying started, the Internet was ablaze with questions. As Buzzfeed asked, was his harness too tight? Was he not allowed into Taylor Swift's clique? Did Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus' spat upset him?
The answer, as it turns out, is that the Biebs was just plain overwhelmed. According to a source close to Bieber, who spoke to Gossip Cop, "He worked so hard not just on the performance but himself. He didn’t know how people would accept him. When he saw them on their feet cheering, he was overwhelmed."
The source also noted, "Last time he was on an award show he was booed. This time he was cheered for. It meant a lot to him.”
Bieber's reps did not respond to our request for comment.
The Canadian pop star began his performance with "Where Are U Now," the upbeat dance track produced by Diplo and Skrillex, and then moved on to his new single, "What Do You Mean?" The singer also released the video for his new track over the weekend, and thanked his fans for all the love on Twitter.
"Thanks for always making me smile," he wrote.
Bieber will continue his streak with upcoming appearances on both "The Tonight Show" and "Today," and his new album is set to be released in November.
The Biebs is officially back.

Batman V Superman: Warner Bros boss explains release date change

 Simon Brew

When Warner Bros shifted Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice to 2016, it left a hole in its schedule. So why did it do it?

For a while, there was going to be the biggest clash of superheroes we’d ever seen at the box office. You may recall that Warner Bros originally had Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice set to land in July of this year, before pushing it back to May 6th 2016. At that stage, Marvel had earmarked that date for a then-unnamed movie, which we now know as Captain Amerca: Civil War. It refused to blink on the release date, and Warner Bros thus moved Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice again, to where it now sits on March 25th 2016.
But why move the film from 2015 in the first place? Warner Bros, Mad Max: Fury Road aside, hasn’t had much of a summer movie season and its CEO, Kevin Tsujihara, had admitted that shifting the Batman V Superman project “was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015”. Which id did, and the studio has paid a price for that.
However, he continued, saying that “it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie. Having see the movie multiple times, and then again last night, I’m extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it’s so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC”.
He’s not kidding there. Warner Bros is near to gambling the house of its DC movie universe, with two of its annual blockbusters a year given over to comic book projects until at least 2020. It doesn’t want to be rebooting anything again if it can help it.
2016 will be pivotal then, not least because David Ayer’s Suicide Squad film is being lined up for August 2016 as well. More on both films as we hear it…

'Guardians of the Galaxy' inspires kid to speak for first time

Directing a sci-fi blockbuster can be a rewarding experience for any movie maker. But when "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn found out that his character of few words -- Groot -- encouraged a child with a developmental coordination disorder to speak for the first time, he was astounded.
Josh Dunlap, a father to a child with dyspraxia, reached out to Gunn on Facebook to let him know how impactful "Guardians of the Galaxy" was on his son Sawyer.
Dyspraxia can affect children in different ways from making it hard to perform a sequence of movements like waving goodbye or brushing your teeth. Children who struggle with Oromotor dyspraxia have difficulty using mouth muscles to pronounce words and may have slurred speech.

"When Guardians came out Sawyer could only say about three words and would communicate to his mother and I by other means," Dunlap told Gunn on Facebook. "When he saw Groot, something clicked inside him and he connected with him on a level I haven't seen."
"He began to mimic him and he would use the word 'Bah' for a lot, but after he saw the film, he would change the tone in which he said it to convey a different meaning," Dunlap added. "He would also start saying Groot for many things as well. Since that, he was finally able to go to a speech class and it has helped amazingly."
Gunn responded to Dunlap on Faceback, "I love making movies because of stories like this. Thank you."

Star Wars Rebels’ Ezra Bridger didn’t receive formal Jedi training before the fall of the Republic. As a result, he handily crafts a lightsaber that can also be used as a stun blaster in a tight spot. While the saber/blast gets points for uniqueness, it kind of defeats the purpose of having the honor and skill to wield a lightsaber. As Obi-Wan Kenobi would say, “So uncivilized.” (Photo by: Lucasfilm)

Will the crossguard featured in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens be super cool? Dangerous? Bit of both? We hope so. Regardless, a fiery, seemingly unstable red lightsaber in the hands of an imposing, mysterious villain can’t possibly be a fail, can it? (Photo by: Lucasfilm)

We all know Supreme Chancellor Palpatine was rotten from the start, but that doesn’t make his official reveal as Darth Sidious any less creepy. To match his fearsome skill, the always upwardly mobile Sidious boasts a lightsaber to match. Gold in color and sleek enough to fit up his sleeve, this lightsaber is one befitting an Emperor. Who knew laser swords could be black? As a proud Mandalorian warrior intent on returning his planet to its warrior roots, Pre Vizsla fights with a darksaber (the same as a lightsaber, though much older). It was stolen from the Jedi Temple by Mandalorians during the fall of the Old Republic. Flatter and more pointed than a typical lightsaber, the darksaber is an excellent example of saber innovation depicted on the series The Clone Wars. (Photo by: Lucasfilm)

Yoda may be several hundred years old and use a cane to get around, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t know his way around a lightsaber duel. Showing off his fighting skills in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, Yoda uses a green shoto, or short-bladed saber, as his singular lightsaber. It matches his diminutive height though it’s no less deadly than any other laser sword. (Photo by: Lucasfilm)

Mexico's first lady returns mansion after scandal broke out

MEXICO CITY (AP) — First lady Angelica Rivera has returned the $7 million mansion she bought from a firm that won lucrative contracts with the administration of President Enrique Pena Nieto, Mexico's Public Administration Department said Friday.
The department's head also said that neither the president nor his wife had incurred in any conflicts of interest.
But the investigation headed by Virgilio Andrade apparently consisted largely of asking government employees whether they had steered contracts to the firm, and critics have questioned Andrade's independence because he was appointed by the president himself.
After a scandal erupted in 2014 amid news reports about the property, Rivera said in November that she was buying the house from the company on monthly payments with money she earned as an actress. The company was to hold title to the mansion until it was paid off.
Rivera said she would sell her rights to the property after questions arose about the president's relationship with contractor Grupo Higa. The mansion was built by one of contractor's subsidiaries.
Just days before the news reports surfaced, Pena Nieto's government canceled a high-speed rail contract that had been granted to the sole bidder, a consortium that included Constructora Teya, another Grupo Higa company. Competitors complained the bidding process had been rushed.
Andrade said Friday that Rivera had reached an agreement with the Grupo Higa subsidiary to pay about $635,000 (10.5 million pesos) in rent for the nearly three years she used the property.
The company agreed to return about $875,000 (14.5 million pesos) she had made in payments on the mansion.
Andrade said the investigation showed that Rivera had bought the house before Pena Nieto took office in December 2012, and that there was no evidence that Pena Nieto intervened to steer contracts to the company.
"The investigation shows that my wife's conduct as well as mine were clearly according to the law," Pena Nieto said later Friday.
The president did, however, recognize that Mexicans had lost confidence in the government that will not be won back with speeches. Pena Nieto offered "a sincere apology" to Mexicans upset by what he called "interpretations" of the irregularities.
Doubts have surrounded Andrade's investigation, in part because of his lack of independence; Pena Nieto appointed him in February to investigate his own administration.
Andrade's investigation apparently consisted largely of asking Pena Nieto's office if he intervened in awarding contracts, and asking 111 government employees if anyone had pressured them into awarding contracts. He refused to answer reporters' questions about whether he had checked the employees' email accounts.
At a three-hour news conference, Andrade refused to answer questions about why Grupo Higa's rail contract was cancelled just days before the mansion scandal broke.
While the government initially offered to have a panel of independent experts review the investigation, Andrade said he had decided not to convene such a panel but instead to post the documents on a government website.
"The important thing is that there is full access for everybody," he said.

Captain America: Civil War: Iron Man to Use Bleeding Edge Armor?

With Marvel Studios’ Phase 2 now completed, the opening chapter of the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Anthony and Joe Russo’s Captain America: Civil War, has the attention of countless movie fans – fans who are very curious to see how the highly anticipated comic book movie will introduce new versions of both Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), while also juggling a big dispute between Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).
With Iron Man and Captain America taking different sides on just how much the government should be involved in the heroes’ challenging work, their fellow Avengers – both new and founding members – will decide whether they want to support Iron Man or Captain America – or avoid the conflict altogether. As Iron Man is forced into potentially fighting his fellow superheroes (and Captain America may battle Spider-Man), speculation has begun that Stark will step into a brand new armor for the conflict – an armor that might be taken straight from the comics.

From The Web
Over on Heroic Hollywood, a picture taken from the Civil War set in Germany reveals Iron Man wearing what could be the Bleeding Edge Armor. The advanced piece of technology made its debut in Matt Fraction and Ryan Meinerding’s Invincible Iron Man #25. Coming after the popular (and powerful) Extremis armor – which inspired parts of Iron Man 3’s story – the Bleeding Edge is a fluid substance which is kept inside of Tony Stark. On his command, it forms around him, providing him all of the usual abilities (e.g., flight, repulsor blasts, superhuman strength, and durability). The armor also boosts his already impressive intellect, gives him the capability to craft new weapons, allows him to see all around himself, and his gauntlet can even create an energy sword.  (“I like to keep this handy… for close encounters.”)If true, Stark undergoing yet another upgrade makes sense, especially since he’s at odds with Captain America and several other heroes. Yes, Iron Man (in the armor, of course) is stronger than Captain America and his durable suit offers flight and a variety of projectiles, but Captain America isn’t someone who should ever be underestimated, and that’s something Stark most certainly knows (even if his ego may prevent him from admitting it). Captain America may not have the ability to zip across the sky or unleash repulsor blasts, but his impressive physicality (remember him throwing a motorcycle in Age of Ultron like it’s no big deal?), stunning talent with a virtually unbreakable shield, and sharp tactical mind makes him someone that even the tech-savvy Stark could have troublE
While a cinematic version of the Bleeding Edge armor likely wouldn’t be as powerful as its comic book counter-part, the movie has the potential to put several of its upgrades to good use. Having a 360 panoramic view is a feasible upgrade, as it the energy sword. (It’s safe to say Iron Man, with an energy sword, clashing with Captain America and his shield could be a blast.) However, having the fluid armor inside of Stark would take the character in a whole new direction and make him even more dangerous. This would prevent his enemies from using his technology against him and, as seen in Age of Ultron, it’s clear Tony wants to keep pushing his technology forward.
In the comics, the Bleeding Edge armor comes after the events of Civil War and, prior to its creation, Norman Osborn/Green Goblin attempted to get his villainous hands on Tony’s technology, as well as the classified information that came out of Civil War (i.e., heroes’ true identities). Now that Marvel is working with Sony to create a new version of Spider-Man and his world, it’s more than likely the studios are, at the very least, discussing what they could do with Osborn. Making him a power-hungry and evil businessman who takes advantage of the Civil War’s aftermath would certainly be a new way to use Spider-Man’s iconic foe on the big screen.
At any rate, although none of this is confirmed, it does present some intriguing possibilities that go beyond Tony’s super-heroic attire, and may offer some insight into his Civil War frame of mind. It seems reasonable to think Stark might create the armor in an effort to step up his abilities as he squares off against other strong, skilled, and formidable heroes. Additionally, the events of Iron Man 3 may have made Stark realize the best way to upgrade is to make sure he is Iron Man at all times, by having his armor as a part of him, and not just something he can step into.
Ant-Man is currently in theaters. Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters May 6, 2016; Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – May 5, 2017; Spider-Man – July 28, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018; Black Panther – July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel – November 2, 2018; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 – May 3, 2019; and Inhumans – July 12, 2019.

Kris Jenner Beats Kylie Jenner In The Family Swimsuit CompetitioN

The Kardashians are a funny old bunch, aren’t they?

OK, so we may be stating the obvious here today – but do you sit down as a family and vote on who’s the fittest one out of all of you? Do Nana Ethel and Cousin Bobby fight it out over Sunday lunch: ‘Who Pulls Off These Spanx The Best?’

#familygoals. Copyright: [Instagram]
Yep, thought not. But it’s a different story for the Kardashian Klan, who apparently delight in weighing in on which generation of their own family is the fittest.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we present the first piece of evidence to the jury: an Instagrammed conversation between the Kardashian siblings and their mother, who, in her infinite wisdom, has asked her children whether she wore a neon pink swimsuit better than her own daughter.

So, a bit like 'Who wore it best’, but in your own family.

Sadly for Kylie, Kris’ victim du jour, her family basically turned on her and agreed that Kris was the one who was REALLY rocking that beach-side vibe.

Maybe the cornrows put them off, Kyle? Or perhaps they were all so terrified of their mother posting a picture of them wearing a similar outfit to her, and then making the rest of the family vote on THEM!

THEY WERE PROTECTING THEMSELVES FROM KRIS’ WRATH.

Anyway, it’s all made for entertaining viewing this morning, so well done Team Kardash.

'Give me back my gun,' train attacker pleads with Americans

Passengers overpower gunman on train in France

Passengers overpower gunman on train in France
Are young Americans emboldened to confront the police?
"I didn't realise what was happening until I saw a guard run past. I looked back and saw a guy enter with a Kalashnikov. My friends and I got down and then I said 'Let's get him'," said Skarlatos, a 22-year-old member of the National Guard in Oregon, who has recently returned from service in Afghanistan.
"We didn't know if the gun wasn't working or anything like that. Spencer just ran anyway and if anyone had gotten shot, it would have been Spencer and we're just very lucky that nobody got killed," he added in quotes shown on the BBC.
Stone tackled the gunman but was cut with a knife.
"At that point I showed up and grabbed the gun from him and basically started beating him in the head until he fell unconscious," said Skarlatos.
Sadler added that the man -- later identified as a 26-year-old of Moroccan origin -- "didn't stand a chance."
"As soon as we saw him, we all ran back there. It all happened really fast," Sadler told BFMTV.
"He didn't say anything. He was just telling us to give back his gun. 'Give me back my gun! Give me back my gun!' But we just carried on beating him up and immobilised him and that was it."
Mobile phone footage from inside the train and shown on several TV stations shows the suspect, a skinny man wearing white trousers and no shirt, flattened on the floor of the train with his hands and feet tied behind his back.
A Kalashnikov is seen leaning against a seat and blood is visible on a window.
Sadler told BFMTV he had spoken to Stone, recovering from the knife wound in hospital, adding that he was "doing well".
"He can't believe that all this happened," said Sadler. "I'm just a college student. I came to see my friends for my first trip to Europe and we stop a terrorist. It's kind of crazy."
A source close to the investigation said two people were being treated at a hospital in Lille.
As well as Stone, who received cuts to his neck and hand, another American passenger was shot in the shoulder. No information was given on their condition.
President Barack Obama singled out the Americans, saying "it is clear that their heroic actions may hve prevented a far worse tragedy."
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said the group showed "great bravery."
"Without their cool-headed actions we could have been faced with a terrible incident," he said.

Kylie Jenner Paid $100k To Attend Her Own Birthday Party

One week on and Kylie Jenner is STILL celebrating her 18th birthday.
While we really think she could have just made do with a limo to Oceana and a kebab like we did, instead the Kardashian opted for a birthday marathon of epic proportions.
Excuse us while we have a little fashion moment. Copyright: [Rex]
Last night, the party went to Canada where Kylie is believed to have been paid near to $100,000 to go to her own birthday party. That’s right – she is literally paid to party.
Rather than book an Uber Exec as a treat, the star arrived by helicopter before jumping in a boat to complete her journey to the Montreal beach club.
All aboard! Ahoy! Etc etc. Copyright: [Rex]
Once on shore, far from being an ‘intimate’ affair Kyles was met by HUNDREDS of fans who proceeded to all sing Happy Birthday to her.
You could say that the turnout was OK. Copyright: [Rex]
In return, the youngest Kardashian posed for a ludicrous amount of selfies with her squealing, adoring public.
In Canada you can drink when you’re 18 as opposed to 21 in the USA meaning that Kylie was legally allowed to enjoy a tipple or two.
Unlike in the US, Kylie could down a few Babychams. Copyright: [Rex]
To celebrate this the club laid on a MA-HOO-SIVE bottle of Moet Chandon with her name on it. We doubt it came out of her pay cheque.
Last weekend the pouty star celebrated in LA with two parties invited to by close friends and fam. Oh, and Zayn Malik, somewhat randomly. Yep, after rather provocatively favouriting one of the reality star’s Insta posts Maliko was snapped arriving at her birthday bash.
Snazzy bomber, Zayno. Copyright: [Rex]
She then jetted off to Mexico with boyf, Tyga, friends and her sister Kendall where the celebrations continued aboard a luxury yacht. Seriously - what is it with celebs and boats?
Sheesh, by the sounds of things she’ll need another holiday to relax after all that and in the light of her recent pay day there will be no probs affording it.

Rihanna Is Not Happy With NBA Star Matt Barnes For Saying Their Relationship Is In The ‘Crush Stage’

In case you didn’t learn this from her B*tch Better Have My Money video, you really shouldn’t ever mess with Rihanna.
It’s a lesson NBA star Matt Barnes has learnt the hard way, after his comments about the status of his relationship with RiRi went down decidedly badly with the lovely lady herself.
image
It all started when Matt, 35, spoke to TMZ about rumours that he was dating 27-year-old Rihanna, initially claiming that it’s all just gossip.
However, he went on to say: “Rihanna is my friend right now, so we’ll see where it goes. It just passed the crush stage a little bit. Just a little bit though.”
He was then asked whether the long-distance would be an issue when he moves to Memphis, to which he responded: “Nah, she’s rich. We’ll be all right.”
image
Copyright [Instagram]
Unfortunately for Matt, RiRi saw the interview and it’s safe to say she wasn’t exactly thrilled about it.
Hinting that the two have never even met (awkward), Ri shared a screenshot from the interview on her Instagram, captioning it with a bunch of hashtags.
One read: “#shesneverevenmetyou,” while another said: “#shesnotthatintoyou.”
She finished by hashtagging: “#defamationofcharacter.”
Would you like some ice for that burn?
Meanwhile, rumours that Rihanna is actually dating Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton are still going strong, after the two apparently getting cosy in Barbados. The singer has not personally confirmed or denied these reports

Xbox One Exec: We're Doing Things That "Can't Be Done" on PS4

According to Xbox executive Kudo Tsunoda, the Xbox One has "a lot more going on" than the PlayStation 4 and other competing platforms. In a new interview, Tsunoda talks about how Xbox One features like backwards compatibility, as well as cross-play and cross-buy with PC, give the Xbox One the upper hand.
View photo
.
"For a long time we've had PC gamers and console gamers who weren't really able to play together," Tsunoda told GameIndustry International. "That's why cross-play is still such a powerful idea. You should be able to play what you love, and play together, regardless of what device you're playing on. It's about connecting people."
"It's a really unique value that only we can offer," he added. "You still need very gamer-focused values, but there's lots of things you can do with our technology. We've really got a lot more going on [than our competitors]. We're doing things that can't be done on any other console."
Tsunoda went on to say that allowing people to play games "wherever they want, on whatever device they choose, and making that easy" is Microsoft's long-term goal for the overall Xbox ecosystem.
On the subject of backwards compatibility specifically, Tsunoda said he's happy to deliver a feature that fans have been clamoring for.
"With backwards compatibility, it isn't something that we just think gamers might want," Tsunoda explained. "We know. We're looking for and soliciting that feedback. It was the number one most requested feature for Xbox One by far."
For its part, Sony has said it has no plans to bring backwards compatibility to PS4.
Not only does the Xbox One have features and functionality that can't be found or delivered on competing platforms, but the console has a bigger lineup of exclusives than anyone else, Tsunoda said. "We've got a lot more exclusive games than any other platform," he stated.
Some of Microsoft's biggest upcoming Xbox One exclusives for this year include Halo 5: Guardians, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fable Legends, and Forza Motorsport 6. Looking into next year and beyond, Microsoft has Quantum Break, Sea of Thieves, Recore, and Inside, among others.
Sony, on the other hand, has admitted that its first-party games lineup for this year is "a little sparse."

Samsung says we can achieve Earth-wide Internet via 4,600 micro-satellites

A new report from tech giant Samsung proposes that a fleet of roughly 4,600 micro-satellites orbiting Earth could solve our impending data crisis.
Predicting that by 2028, 5 billion Internet users around the world will be collectively chewing through at least 1 zettabyte per month - to put that in perspective, 1 zettabyte is 1,000 exabytes, 1 exabyte is 1,000 petabytes, and 1 petabyte is 1,000 terabytes - the report says we’re going to have to think seriously about how we can deliver that. A constellation of tiny Internet-beaming satellites could be a viable option, it says, and Samsung could be the one to build it.
The report, entitled Mobile Internet from the Heavens, describes an Internet satellite system that will avoid the latency issues of current communications satellites by being positioned much closer to Earth. "Most modern communications satellites live in geostationary orbit, roughly 35,000 kilometres above the surface, and this imposes a hard limit on speed due to travel time for the data transmissions," Graham Templeton writes for ExtremeTech. "Samsung wants to position its constellation in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and thus reduce this delay."
Since the fleet of micro-satellites will be constantly moving around, with no one satellite dedicated to a particular patch of Earth, Samsung predicts that it will need about 4,600 of them to ensure constant coverage everywhere on the planet.
This is not the first time a universal 'space Internet' has been proposed. In June, SpaceX’s Elon Musk requested permission from the FCC to launch a constellation of Internet-beaming satellites into Low Earth Orbit for testing, and Sir Richard Branson has raised US$500 million to develop and launch his own OneWeb space telescope system by 2019.
Closer to the ground, we have Google working on making Sri Lanka the first country on Earth with universal Internet coverage via its helium ballon system, and Facebook is following close on its heals with plans to launch Internet-beaming drones.
It's not really a surprise that some of the biggest technology companies in the world are vying for control over where we'll be getting out Internet from in the coming decades. As Templeton points out, the philanthropic bonuses for connecting the poorest and most remote regions in the world will be substantial, but what it's really about is finding a way to push your own products and services.
"Not only do you get to sell high-speed Internet to the remaining global majority that still lives without it, but you also get to bias them toward using your services on the Internet," he says. "Though it wasn’t as tied to the launch of satellites, Facebook’s Internet.org is an attempt to achieve much the same thing: give people without adequate access to the Iinternet a subsidised version of it, in exchange for the chance to expose them to your version of the Internet, first."
Getting an Internet-beaming satellite constellation up and running won't be easy - as Bill Gates knows all too well - and Samsung hasn't even announced whether it plans to do anything with this proposal yet. We'll just have to wait and see. I suspect the idea is an inevitability, and right now, it's anyone's game.

Nicki Minaj, Nip Slip
Wardrobe malfunctions be damned—the show must go on.
Nicki Minaj gave fans an eyeful on Sunday when she performed at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada, as part of her Pinkprint Tour.
Wearing a very revealing bra top, the 32-year-old "Anaconda" rapper suffered a nip slip on stage before quickly grabbing her left breast with her hand.
The "Super Bass" beauty appeared unfazed by the unexpected wardrobe malfunction and continued on without stopping the show. During her performance, she was joined by boyfriend Meek Mill for their collaboration on his  "All Eyes On You," and the two were seen sharing a passionate kiss on stage as Minaj lovingly embraced her man.

Nip slip aside, the concert seemingly went down without a hitch just two days after Minaj made headlines for her Friday performance in the Bay Area, where a number of physical alternations reportedly broke out among audience members. According to reports, Minaj stopped the show after she witnessed one fan get pepper sprayed.
Over the weekend, Minaj, who is no stranger to flaunting her enviable bod, also sent fans into a tizzy when she posted a twerk video to her Instagram page.
"@meekmill I love how we spend our days off," she captioned the clip in which she's rocking a thong while twerking on top of her man. "Cheers to everyone living their lives and not being pressed."
In an apparent response to her haters, Minaj replied to one fan on Twitter who wrote, "they always made so give them a reason to be more mad," to which she wrote, "That's what I always do. And if this makes the news I'll just laugh. I'm gonna keep doing wtf I want."

Single dad creates parenting app that rewards kids for good behavior

Single dad creates parenting app that rewards kids for good behavior

 Kevin and Kyle Spiteri
Disciplining kids is tough. Whether you're trying to get them to clean up their rooms or stop acting up in class, how do you motivate kids to do the right thing? Some parents offer a reward to make good behavior more appealing, while others dole out punishment whenever not-so-good behavior occurs. This new app leans toward the carrot approach, with a creative twist on the art of disciplining kids.
Single dad Kevin Spiteri knows all too well how hard it can be. His son, Kyle, started acting out a few years ago when Kyle's mom and Kevin were going through a tough divorce. Kyle was in preschool at the time and he began doing things like pulling kids' hair, not listening to teachers, and behaving in other ways that continually led to him being sent home.
Spiteri tried everything to get Kyle to behave. “I went as far as paying someone to be with him during the day at school, to make it through the day and not be disruptive to the class,” Kevin told Yahoo! News. “I was willing to do anything to help him.” The Culver City, California, dad punished his son and took away his toys, but he didn't start to see any real behavioral changes until he looked for ways to positively reinforce his son's good behavior.
Spiteri created a board-game style poster for Kyle that had 100 connecting squares. Every 10 squares, he drew a picture of a small reward. At the end of the game — the 100th square — Spiteri pasted a pic of his son holding a toy that he desperately wanted from the toy store. With the help of Kyle's teacher, Spiteri put a sticker on the poster for every day that his son behaved at school.

It didn't take long before Kyle had his toy. And Spiteri, an occupational therapist for kids with special needs, realized that he could create an app version of his poster to help all kids (and their parents) who are struggling with discipline issues. The result is Behavior World, made by Spiteri and his business partner and fellow occupational therapist, Bryan Saavedra.
Parents and kids can download Behavior World on their i-gadgets and customize it to track a variety of behavior issues such as "I Kept My Hands to Myself," or "I Stayed In My Seat," or "I Did What the Teacher Asked." The app can also be used to help create good habits at home such as doing homework, washing hands, or eating a good dinner. The really cool part is that the same free app can be used by parents, teachers or anyone who works with kids — and that means consistency for kids who need it most. Kids earn tokens when they achieve a task and after 10 tokens they get a small pre-arranged reward like a trip to the zoo, extra bathtime, or something fun like camping in the living room.
As for Kyle, his dad says he is the "poster child" for how positive reinforcement can help improve behavior.
Now that's a win.

Bill Gates and others invest in revolutionary gene-editing technology

Bill Gates and others invest in revolutionary gene-editing technology

Bill GatesImagine if there was a technology that could modify your genetic code in much the same way that lines of text are cut and pasted using a word processor. It might sound like science fiction to some or Frankensteinian to others, but such a technology is on the cusp of becoming a reality, and it could actually lead to some remarkable breakthroughs, such as cures for genetic disease.
It's all thanks to an enzyme called CRISPR-Cas9 that was only just discovered a few years ago. The enzyme, which occurs naturally in some bacteria, is part of a bacteria's immune response when it gets attacked by a virus. Basically, CRISPR-Cas9 is capable of very precisely slicing and dicing viral DNA. These genetic cuts must be precise because the bacteria end up storing bits of the viral DNA so they can then recognize and better defend against similar viruses in the future.
That's great for bacteria, but it didn't take long for scientists to realize it could be great for us too. CRISPR-Cas9 is now recognized as the most effective technique for snipping and editing DNA ever found, and scientists think that by channeling this tool they can eliminate genetic disease for good.
Of course, it could also eventually lead to designer babies, but that's another matter for another time.
For now, CRISPR-Cas9 gene-editing techniques are being given the full go-ahead by investors. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and one of the richest men alive, is pouring money into it. He is part of a group of investors who have recently pledged to invest $120 million into a CRISPR-based start-up called Editas Medicine, a sum that will be enough to fund the company's efforts for at least three years, reports Forbes.
“They all appreciate the vast potential of this science,” said Katrine Bosley, chief executive of Editas. “The heart of the conversation we had with everybody is how you translate this very exciting but young science into treatments, into therapies.”
The first patients likely to receive the new gene-editing treatments are those suffering from Leber’s congenital amaurosis type 10, which is a genetic form of blindness. This disease makes a good test case for the technique for a couple of reasons. First, because it occurs in the eye where gene therapies are relatively easy to deliver. Second, because the genetic error that causes the disease is simple and can be easily deleted out.
Once these simpler genetic errors can be adequately corrected, the technique can be perfected for more complicated genetic maladies. If all goes well, there's no reason this technique can't eventually be applied to editing and sorting whole genomes, perhaps even rebuilding and modifying genomes from scratch. Such precise genome engineering could give scientists the power of creation itself — the ability to change the world as we know it on an ecological scale — and that's not hyperbole. The technology has even been referred to by some as a potential "Genesis Engine.
With the massive amount of funding CRISPR projects are receiving, the future might be even closer than we all realize.
