Costa must read the game better - Mourinho

Diego Costa needs to show greater foresight off the ball if he is to improve his scoring record, Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho says.
Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has called on struggling striker Diego Costa to improve his reading of the game.
The Spain international scored 20 Premier League goals in 26 appearances in a successful first season at Stamford Bridge which culminated in the title.
It is form that starkly contrasts with his three strikes in 11 outings this term, with Chelsea sitting 15th in the table.
Mourinho believes Costa – who scored the winner against Norwich City last weekend – must show greater intelligence in his movement if he is to rediscover his best form.
"He is not reading the game properly in these actions. That was my opinion," the Portuguese coach said.
"As a striker he must read. You have to play not when you have the ball, but when others have the ball.
"You have to anticipate things and read the game faster. Everything is an accumulation.
"You're not on fire again just because you've scored a goal against Norwich. It's a process."
The pair argued during Chelsea's 4-0 victory over Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League in midweek, but Mourinho insisted no lasting damage has been done.
"Everything is okay, no problem," he said. "In the game I told him, from a distance, that I was not happy with the movement he did.
"He told be also a few nice words from where he was. And nothing happened, nothing happened at half-time."
Chelsea visit Tottenham on Sunday facing a 14-point deficit to leaders Leicester City and sitting 10 behind their London rivals.

Manchester United Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo 'Clear' on Real Exit Rumours

Manchester United Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo 'Clear' on Real Exit RumoursReal Madrid poster boy Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly "clear" in the understanding he'll take his leave of the Santiago Bernabeu next summer, giving Manchester United extreme hope of signing their former talisman once more.
According to a report from Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, the Portuguese's mind is already made up that his future lies away from Madrid, although Paris Saint-Germain will offer competition for his signature (h/t Metro's Tom Olver).

The speculation has emerged as the discontent continues to grow at the Bernabeu. The Daily Mail's Rob Draper reported "clear-the-air" talks were held with manager Rafa Benitez in the wake of the 4-0 hammering at Barcelona's hands in November.
Benitez's maiden campaign at Los Blancos' helm has hardly been a fairytale journey thus far, but the tactician recently insisted any rumours of a divide between him and Ronaldo are false, per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan"[Cristiano] is a magnificent player, fundamental for us. I have no problem with him."

Is 2016 the year Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford?

Most Red Devils have longed to see their prodigal son return to Old Trafford ever since his 2009 departure, but as long as his world-beating form has put him in contention for major silverware and Ballon d'Or titles, that comeback has remained out of reach.
However, with Los Merengues currently sitting six points behind Barca in La Liga and Manchester United challenging for the Premier League lead, this may be as profitable a time as any for Ronaldo to leave.
As aforementioned, French giants PSG offer a huge threat in the hunt, considering they would be one of the few other clubs capable of financing a deal and offering aspirations to compete at the pinnacle of European football.
While results have waned slightly this season, alongside Ronaldo's own dip in form, Sky Sports Statto nonetheless depicted the Portugal captain as one of the most prolific players in history:
James Robson of the Manchester Evening News recently reported that United genuinely believe themselves to be capable of signing the world's elite once again following several seasons of obscurity following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement.
Speaking to The Football Republic, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague gave his take on why Ronaldo's

Real Madrid road appears to be coming upon a turning point (via Full Time Devils):
Ronaldo being motivated to seal a move away from Real Madrid could well prove to be the secret ingredient Manchester United have been aching for in their effort to sanction the return of the three-time Ballon d'Or winner.
A lot may depend on how Real Madrid are able to recover from a below-par start to the campaign as they look to convince their superstar the capital is the best setting he could hope fo

Mourinho: Hazard not Chelsea's number 10

Jose Mourinho has told Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard he is a winger and does not have the attributes to play the number 10 role.
Jose Mourinho has told Eden Hazard he is not suited to playing as Chelsea's number 10.
Mourinho: Hazard not Chelsea's number 10
Hazard has expressed his desire to play in a central attacking role but his Portuguese coach has told the Real Madrid transfer target he sees him as a winger.
The Belgium international is eager to be the team's key playmaker but Mourinho believes Hazard does not hold the suitable attributes to fit into his system.
"Me and Eden have different concepts of number 10," Mourinho said.
"For me a number 10 does a lot of things with and without the ball. So a number 10 is a very special player in my team.
"In my first period, we played with two number eights. But in my last period, with Chelsea, we are playing with a system of two midfield players and one number 10. I demand a lot from someone in that position. Every position is important but it is an important position.
"I like a number 10 to score goals. I like a number 10 to get in the box. I like a number 10 to score a goal like Oscar did against Maccabi Tel Aviv. A number 10 for me is an eight-and-a-half when the team loses the ball and the number 10 is a nine-and-a-half when the team has the ball."
Mourinho pointed towards two of his former players as examples of what he expected from the role, raising doubts over Hazard's capabilities.
"Wesley Sneijder and Deco are my perfect number 10s," he said.
"The complete number 10s. Mesut Ozil was very good at Real Madrid as well. Sneijder could defend, get in the box and finish with goals. Can Eden be that man as a number 10? I don’t think so."
Spanish giants Madrid are reportedly preparing a £80million bid for Hazard this off-season, with last season's PFA Players' Player of the Year gradually regaining his form for the defending champions.

David Beckham Embarrasses Son Brooklyn With Instagram Comment

If you think you’re parents are embarrassing on social media then you’ll probably be pleased to hear that you’re definitely not the only one, and it doesn’t matter if your mum and dad are average, everyday people or global superstars - they will find a way of humiliating you online.
Don’t believe us? Just ask sixteen-year-old Brooklyn Beckham, who has been called out on Instagram by his dad for the second time this year.

Trying to look all brooding ‘n’ cool like every other teen on the social network, Brooklyn posted an edgy black and white photograph of himself in a retro designer hoodie, alongside the caption: “Rocking the old school Ralph Lauren”.
To be fair, he’d definitely achieved in the 'cool’ stakes… Until his famous father came along and busted him.
Liking the photo before posting the offending comment, 41-year-old David Beckham needlessly wrote: “That’s my jumper”, consequently exposing that his sons posh threads aren’t his own.

Not that he doesn’t have enough of his own posh threads, that’s for sure.
This isn’t the first time that David has embarrassed Brooklyn this year, previously interrupting a video that his eldest child was making about reaching one million followers on Instagram, with the former footballer quipping: “I have 52 [million]!”.

Brooklyn’s mum, Victoria, has also done her fair share of humiliating too, making the unimpressed aspiring model pose in a T-Shirt that read “My mama says I’m special” and also sharing previously unseen snaps of her cool and edgy son posing among Disney characters on the family’s visit to Disneyworld.

Don’t worry Brooklyn, no matter how hard your mum and dad might try we know that you’re the coolest teen around right now - and to be honest, it’s refreshing to see this kind of parental behaviour exist in the world of celebrity.

Jose Mourinho: Drogba made comments to sell books

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at club great Didier Drogba, claiming he refuses to take notice of his former favorite's recent jibes.
Drogba, now playing in MLS with the Montreal Impact, called for the Chelsea squad to show more leadership, with the defending champion languishing in the 15th position of the Premier League table.
Mourinho has hit back at the criticism, however, and questioned Drogba's motives behind the quotes, suggesting the Ivorian is looking to create controversy to coincide with the release of his new autobiography.
"When you speak because you want to sell books, I don't read. I don't read," the Portuguese coach said. "I like good interviews. I like interviews from big guys like Didier with good journalists, newspapers or television. But this is not an interview. It was to sell books.
"It doesn't disappoint me. It was just the reality. It was just to sell books. I can analyse Didier's interview with pleasure, but not Didier selling books."
Drogba, who is eager to return to Stamford Bridge in a coaching role once retiring, told the Mirror that Chelsea's younger players must develop their mental strength to reaffirm their league status.
"Yes, JT [John Terry] is still there but on your own it is very difficult," he said. "Other players have to come up with this mentality, you are not born with it. You build it. Maybe you have it in you but you build it."

20 Misused Words That Make Smart People Look Dumb

We're all tempted to use words that we're not too familiar with.
2015-10-22-1445551376-5612915-20MisusedWordsThatMakeSmartPeopleLookDumbHP.jpg
If this were the only problem, I wouldn't have much to write about. That's because we're cautious with words we're unsure of and, thus, they don't create much of an issue for us.
It's the words that we think we're using correctly that wreak the most havoc.
We throw them around in meetings, e-mails and important documents (such as resumes and client reports), and they land, like fingernails across a chalkboard, on everyone who has to hear or read them.
We're all guilty of this from time to time, myself included.
When I write, I hire an editor who is an expert in grammar to review my articles before I post them online. It's bad enough to have a roomful of people witness your blunder and something else entirely to stumble in front of 100,000!
Point is, we can all benefit from opportunities to sharpen the saw and minimize our mistakes.
Often, it's the words we perceive as being more "correct" or sophisticated that don't really mean what we think they do. There are 20 such words that have a tendency to make even really smart people stumble.
Have a look to see which of these commonly confused words throw you off.
Accept vs. Except
These two words sound similar but have very different meanings. Accept means to receive something willingly: "His mom accepted his explanation" or "She accepted the gift graciously." Except signifies exclusion: "I can attend every meeting except the one next week."
To help you remember, note that both except and exclusion begin with ex.
Affect vs. Effect
To make these words even more confusing than they already are, both can be used as either a noun or a verb.
Let's start with the verbs. Affect means to influence something or someone; effect means to accomplish something. "Your job was affected by the organizational restructuring" but "These changes will be effected on Monday."
As a noun, an effect is the result of something: "The sunny weather had a huge effect on sales." It's almost always the right choice because the noun affect refers to an emotional state and is rarely used outside of psychological circles: "The patient's affect was flat."
Lie vs. Lay
We're all pretty clear on the lie that means an untruth. It's the other usage that trips us up. Lie also means to recline: "Why don't you lie down and rest?" Lay requires an object: "Lay the book on the table." Lie is something you can do by yourself, but you need an object to lay.
It's more confusing in the past tense. The past tense of lie is--you guessed it--lay: "I lay down for an hour last night." And the past tense of lay is laid: "I laid the book on the table."
Bring vs. Take
Bring and take both describe transporting something or someone from one place to another, but the correct usage depends on the speaker's point of view. Somebody brings something to you, but you take it to somewhere else: "Bring me the mail, then take your shoes to your room."
Just remember, if the movement is toward you, use bring; if the movement is away from you, use take.
Ironic vs. Coincidental
A lot of people get this wrong. If you break your leg the day before a ski trip, that's not ironic--it's coincidental (and bad luck).
Ironic has several meanings, all of which include some type of reversal of what was expected. Verbal irony is when a person says one thing but clearly means another. Situational irony is when a result is the opposite of what was expected. O. Henry was a master of situational irony. In "The Gift of the Magi," Jim sells his watch to buy combs for his wife's hair, and she sells her hair to buy a chain for Jim's watch. Each character sold something precious to buy a gift for the other, but those gifts were intended for what the other person sold. That is true irony.
If you break your leg the day before a ski trip, that's coincidental. If you drive up to the mountains to ski, and there was more snow back at your house, that's ironic.
Imply vs. Infer
To imply means to suggest something without saying it outright. To infer means to draw a conclusion from what someone else implies. As a general rule, the speaker/writer implies, and the listener/reader infers.
Nauseous vs. Nauseated
Nauseous has been misused so often that the incorrect usage is accepted in some circles. Still, it's important to note the difference. Nauseous means causing nausea; nauseated means experiencing nausea.
So, if your circle includes ultra-particular grammar sticklers, never say "I'm nauseous" unless you want them to be snickering behind your back.
Comprise vs. Compose
These are two of the most commonly misused words in the English language. Comprise means to include; compose means to make up.
It all comes down to parts versus the whole. When you use comprise, you put the whole first: "A soccer game comprises (includes) two halves." When you use compose, you put the pieces first: "Fifty states compose (make up) the United States of America."
Farther vs. Further
Farther refers to physical distance, while further describes the degree or extent of an action or situation. "I can't run any farther," but "I have nothing further to say."
If you can substitute "more" or "additional," use further.
Fewer vs. Less
Use fewer when you're referring to separate items that can be counted; use less when referring to a whole: "You have fewer dollars, but less money."

Bringing It All Together

English grammar can be tricky, and, a lot of times, the words that sound right are actually wrong.
With words such as those listed above, you just have to memorize the rules so that when you are about to use them, you'll catch yourself in the act and know for certain that you've written or said the right one.
