Nigeria's Nollywood: seeking worldwide appeal

.
Lagos (AFP) - The camera rolls from left to right on a dolly as the actors, all African, go through their lines, a sound operator holding a boom steady over their heads under bright studio lights.
It could be a scene from any film set but Kunle Afolayan hopes "The CEO" could drive change in Nigeria's hugely popular and prolific movie industry, Nollywood.
"'CEO' represents Africa as a continent," said the 41-year-old during a break from filming at a luxury resort outside the financial capital, Lagos.
"By virtue of the kind of story, the actors, the team and every element of the film to a large extent, embraces who we are as Africans," he told AFP.
The film's plot is about a telecoms firm looking to replace its boss. Five members of the company's management are dispatched across Africa to find the best candidate.
Cast members include Benin's Grammy award-winning singer Angelique Kidjo, as well as actors from South Africa, Kenya, Ivory Coast and Morocco.
"It's a fairly great mix and I think it's a mix that's like Kunle himself," said Moroccan television and film actress Fatym Layachi.
"(He's) a totally Nigerian director in the sense he's proud of being Nigerian and proud of his culture... and at the same time he's part of something completely universal."
- Corporate backing -
With a budget of more than $1 million (880,000 euros), "The CEO" is a far cry from the shoestring productions that characterise the bulk of Nollywood's output.
Some cost as little as $25,000 to make -- a fraction of the $250 million average in Hollywood -- and can be turned around within a month from filming to sale.
Afolayan has secured financial backing from Air France in a first for the French carrier, which is banking on his reputation to drive up its brand in Nigeria.
The company has provided tickets for shooting to take place in Kenya, South Africa and even at Paris' main airport, Charles De Gaulle.
Better financing, it is hoped, will change Nollywood's image of poorly made films with wobbly cameras, poor sound and often rudimentary editing.
His ambition fits into a wider context of a greater role for Nollywood in Nigeria's economy and recognition of its value for the country.
In April last year, Nollywood was included in Nigeria's economic data for the first time -- a sign of its growing power and influence.
The film industry was estimated to be worth 859.9 billion naira ($4.3 billion, 3.8 billion euros) or 1.2 percent of GDP.
With an average of 2,000 films produced every year, Nollywood, which developed out of the digital boom of the 1990s, is one of the biggest cinema industries in the world.
That puts it in the same bracket as movie-mad India, although revenues -- thought to be about $590 million a year -- are considerably less.
- Production values -
In 2013, the United Nations estimated that Nollywood, which releases about 50 films a week, employed some one million people and could create one million more jobs if properly run.
Many of the movies tackle social and cultural problems -- corruption, drugs, love triangles -- and rely heavily on melodrama.
Most are sold as DVDs at the roadside, either at market stalls, from wheelbarrows or by hawkers at traffic lights.
Online distribution has started through Internet platforms such as iROKOtv and via cable and satellite television, expanding their audience and appeal across Africa.
Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari earlier this year ordered a crackdown on bootleg copies, to regularise sales and give actors and producers a fairer deal of revenues.
For Afolayan, better quality films, as producers and directors hone their skills, and with actors from across Africa, will boost interest on the continent and beyond.
The filmmaker has already shown his films at a Nollywood festival in Paris, which has become an annual fixture since 2013.
"Some people are very comfortable in making low quality products because for them it is only a means of livelihood, for them they only make money," he said.
"For me film is not about earning a living, film is life for me. I breathe film, I sleep film."

Justin Bieber Doubles Up at No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Charts

Justin Bieber jumps to No. 1 on two Billboard dance charts with "What Do You Mean?"
On Dance Club Songs (dated Oct. 31), the track soars 4-1, earning Greatest Gainer honors for the third consecutive week. It's Bieber's second trip to the summit; "Beauty and a Beat" (featuring Nicki Minaj) led in 2013. Remixes from Delirious and Alex K, Strobe and Jerome Price, among others, contributed to Bieber's new leader.
Bieber also bumps to No. 1 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay (2-1). It's likewise his second leader on the list; "As Long as You Love Me" (featuring Big Sean) led in 2012.
R3HAB REMIX BOOSTS SWIFT: Staying with Dance/Mix Show Airplay, Taylor Swift swings into the top 10 with "Wildest Dreams" (11-5). It's her fifth consecutive (and total) top 10, the most of any act since her "Shake It Off" moved 13-8 on Oct. 18, 2014. While that track ended up peaking at No. 6, Swift rose as high as No. 4 with her next hit "Blank Space" (Jan. 17). Aiding airplay of "Wildest Dreams" is an officially commissioned remix by DJ R3hab, which sold 12,000 downloads in its first tracking week following its Oct. 15 release, according to Nielsen Music.
KASKADE KLIMBS: Kaskade also shoots into Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10 with "Disarm You," featuring Ilsey (18-10). It's the 14th top 10 for the global DJ; in the chart's 12-year history only Britney Spears (20) and David Guetta (21) have more.
SECOND-BEST FIRST: On Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Major Lazer and DJ Snake lounge at No. 1 for a 14th week with "Lean On" (featuring MO). The track passes the 13-week reign of Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" (featuring Pharrell Williams) in 2013 and now trails only Avicii's 26-week domination with "Wake Me Up!" in 2013-14 for the most weeks at No. 1 since the chart's Jan. 26, 2013 inception.
"Lean" also leads Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs for a 17th non-consecutive week, pulling in 8.4 million U.S. streams (essentially equal to the prior week's sum), while returning to the top of Dance/Electronic Digital Songs for a 12th total week (2-1; 27,000, up 10 percent).
'BETTER' BETTER: Also on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Audien and featured act Lady Antebellum each score their first top 10 with "Something Better" (12-10). The song soars by 37 percent to 13,000 downloads sold, a new weekly high. "Something" topped Dance Club Songs on Sept. 26.
ZHU ZOOMS: The unlikely trio of Zhu, rap act Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and contemporary jazz player Trombone Shorty debut at No. 25 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with "Hold Up, Wait a Minute" (6,000 sold). It's the first visit to the chart for the latter two acts.
"Hold Up" also enters at No. 11 on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs, marking the DJ's highest position on the chart yet; Zhu's signature hit, "Faded," reached No. 13 a year ago and has sold 211,000 to date.
A NEW DRUG: Finally, on Top Dance/Electronic Albums, Kelela's independently released Hallucinogen (EP), on Cherry Coffee Music, scores the Hot Shot Debut (No. 4, 2,000 sold). Concurrently, the set enters at No. 4 on Heatseekers Albums and No. 40 on Independent Albums. Two tracks from the EP have also pierced the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart: "A Message" (No. 11 in March) and "Rewind" (No. 4 in September).

Beyonce, Nicki Minaj Perform "Feeling Myself" at Star-Studded Tidal Concert: See the Raunchy Pics!

Beyonce, Nicki Minaj Perform "Feeling Myself" at Star-Studded Tidal Concert: See the Raunchy Pics!Whip that ponytail, Bey! Plenty of celebs performed at the Tidal concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Tuesday, Oct. 20, but the set that really brought the house down featured two top ladies in the biz.
Beyonce and Nicki Minaj took the stage to perform their song “Feeling Myself,” complete with their own teams of dancers. Minaj, 32, started off the racy tune in a black bodysuit with lacy tights. Her dancers wore black crop tops with matching bottoms and boots.
Then Queen Bey, 34, entered wearing a pastel pink bodysuit with a high ponytail, reminiscent of her 2015 Met Gala look. The ladies swiveled their hips and played around the stage, with Beyonce getting on her knees at one point and whipping her ponytail around.
At the end of the song, the music superstars stood face-to-face, getting closer and closer before breaking out into laughter and hugging.
“Make some noise for the motherf—king Queen Bey,” Minaj shouted, to which Beyonce replied, “Make some noise for Nicki!”
Beyonce returned to the stage later in the evening to sing Justin Timberlake’s part of “Holy Grail” alongside her husband, Jay Z. Other celebrity performances included the social justice anthem “Chains” by Usher and Nas and cameos from French Montana, Rick Ross, and DJ Khaled.

Meek Mill-Drake Feud: Nicki Minaj’s Boyfriend Reportedly Recording Another Diss Song; Freestyles Over ‘Back To Back’ [VIDEO]

By
Meek Mill Back To Back It appears Meek Mill could be using Drake's diss song "Back To Back" to take jabs at the Canadian rapper. On Wednesday night a video surfaced of what appears to be Mill in a recording studio freestyle rapping over "Back To Back." Drake released the song in July as a response to Mill's accusations that he uses a ghostwriter.
Mill and Drake have been beefing with each other since July when the former went on a Twitter rant telling fans not to compare him to Drake. Mill, who's currently dating Nicki Minaj, alleged that Drake doesn't write his songs. This led to a lot of back and forth between the rappers.
Drake initially kept quiet about Mill's allegations but then responded with the diss tracks "Back To Back" and "Charged Up." Mill shot back with the track "Wanna Know."
It's been rumored that Mill is working on another Drake diss song with Sauce Walka, from the hip-hop group Sauce Twinz. Drake started feuding with Sauce Walka in May when the Houston native claimed Drake's Houston Appreciation Weekend was a fraud because Drake has never collaborated with a Houston rapper. Sauce Walka then released "Wack to Wack," mocking Drake.
According to reports, Mill isn't the only one rumored to be working on another diss track. MTV reports that Drake teased to fans during an August concert that he had another song aimed at Mill called “3 Peat.”
Besides feuding with Drake, Mill and Wale started beefing earlier this week after Wale went on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club and said Mill challenging Drake was like bringing "a pencil to a gunfight." Wale and Mill have been going back and forth over social media ever since the "Lotus Flower Bomb" rapper's interview.

IMPORTANCE Of ISTAGFAAR

By H.B.S
IMPORTANCE Of ISTAGFAAR PART 1 Asalam to you reading this. May the glory and blessings of Allah be upon Prophet Muhammed (s.a.w), his family, his Sahaaba, and all his followers. Istagfaar as we know is the act of asking for forgiveness from Allah. Istagfaar as mentioned in the Quran in Surah 71 vs 10-12 Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. *He will send rain from the sky upon you in continuing showers.* And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and rivers in Al jahnaa. Saying Istagfaar as we see comes with many rewards. What other thing do we want in this life and the hereafter than all that is mentioned above. Also the Prophet peace be upon him said "Ask forgiveness from Allah because he himself ask forgiveness from Allah 100times a day" if the blessed Prophet whose Paradise is guaranteed can do this why shouldn't we do it. Comparing Istagfaar and other significant dua like subhanalla, Alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar and Lahilaha illalahu we see that Istagfaar is very important i.e the other significant dua are like spraying perfume on a dirty cloth while Istagfaar is like washing that dirty cloth. And how can your duas be answered instantly without been washed away of your sins. In a minute or even less 100 astagfurullahi can be mentioned. So why not be of importance to yourself and also follow Sunnah simultaneously in a minute by doing it. May Allah forgive our sins, grant us ease of mind to do our Istagfaar and also bestow upon us all the rewards attributed to it. Ameen

Mourinho aims barbs at referee, Wenger

AFP
Kiev (AFP) - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho resumed his hostility towards referees and his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger after his team's 0-0 draw at Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Kiev (AFP) - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho resumed his hostility towards referees and his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger after his team's 0-0 draw at Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Mourinho was fined £50,000 ($77,000, 68,000 euros) by England's Football Association and given a suspended one-game stadium ban for saying a referee had been "afraid" to give his side a penalty during their recent 3-1 loss at home to Southampton.
But the suspended ban does not extend to European competition, enabling Mourinho to return to the theme after referee Damir Skomina denied Cesc Fabregas a spot-kick during the first half of the Group G game in Kiev.
Echoing recent remarks by Wenger -- for which the Frenchman avoided punishment by the FA -- Mourinho told British television channel BT Sport: "The referee was weak and naive.
"Big penalty. I cannot understand what the goal referee does, because he doesn't make a clear decision, too. And when the result is 0-0 and such a penalty is not given, it is a crucial moment in the game."
The penalty incident saw Fabregas break into the Dynamo box from the left before stumbling over Serhiy Rybalka's outstretched leg and then being caught from behind by Yevhen Khacheridi.
As Mourinho dragged Wenger's name into the conversation, the Arsenal manager was over 2,000 kilometres away in London, celebrating his team's 2-0 win over Bayern Munich.
Mourinho was referring to Wenger's comments that referee Mike Dean had been "weak" and "naive" for sending off Arsenal defender Gabriel during the north London club's 2-0 defeat at Chelsea last month.
Gabriel's red card, which he received for flicking out a foot at Chelsea striker Diego Costa, was subsequently rescinded by the FA on appeal.
Tuesday's result left Chelsea in third place in Group G, a point below Dynamo and three points behind leaders Porto.
But Mourinho, whose side also hit the woodwork through the recalled Eden Hazard and Willian, was encouraged by his team's performance.
"Good, solid performance, second clean sheet (after Saturday's 2-0 win over Aston Villa)," said the Portuguese, whose side are currently 10 points off the pace in the Premier League.
"Everybody fighting for each other and trying to give each other the tactical discipline the team needs."
He added: "I see progress. I see progress individually, because when I look to some players, I seem them now in a level that is more their level.
"Collectively, we kept some collective qualities that were important. Concentration was phenomenal, the team was really solid.
"If you ask me before the game, I want to win and I think we showed that the way we started the game, but the reality is that it's a very difficult game from the mental point of view because to win would be great, but to lose would be very, very bad."

See 10 huge mistakes in the Star Wars movies you never noticed before

by
Jacob Siegal
With all the excitement surrounding the Star Wars franchise, it’s probably stirring up some fond memories of the original trilogy for many fans. But despite that fact that you probably remember Episodes IV-VI as being nearly flawless the last time you saw them, there were actually plenty of mistakes you might have missed.
On Monday, Screen Rant shared its latest compilation video on YouTube, this time focusing on the 10 biggest mistakes in the original Star Wars trilogy. Most of these mistakes are understandable considering the lack of high-quality computer-generated graphics in the late ’70s, but they’re still fun to examine decades after release.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18th, 2015, but you can pre-purchase tickets today. While that date creeps ever closer, watch the video from Screen Rant below:

by
Cristiano Ronaldo's Hollywood debut will have to wait for now.
Ronaldo was expected to have a part in Martin Scorsese's new film about Italian real estate agent Alessandro Proto after Ronaldo's new apartment in Trump Tower was selected for a scene location.
According to a report from Sport, Ronaldo was supposed to be paid over $11 million (€10 million) for being cut from the film, but his lawyer negotiated for double the pay.Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly being paid $22 million to not appear in Martin Scorsese's new movie
Proto objected to Ronaldo being in the film and now Ronaldo is no longer a part of the project.
"I don't want him in a film about my life. Martin Scorsese is in agreement with me. Cristiano Ronaldo is not going to be in the film. I am sorry if he doesn't feel valued, but in life you win some and you lose some. If I really have to give him 20 million euros, I will give it to him with my own hands."
Gazzetta World doesn't report that they will pay Ronaldo €20 million, but says Ronaldo's role was supposed to be a sweetener for filming in his apartment.
Gazetta World also says that producers feared Ronaldo would be too much of a distraction to the film.
Channing Tatum is reportedly expected to replace Ronaldo.

Jaden Smith Compares Himself to Galileo, Plus 5 More Crazy Quotes From His 'GQ' Interview

by Jackie Willis
Jaden Smith doesn't care if people think he's "crazy." In fact, he tells GQ magazine that he embraces the criticism.
"People think you're crazy -- I feel like it's an honor, actually, for people to think I'm crazy. Because they thought Galileo was crazy, too, you know what I'm saying?" the 17-year-old star explained to GQ staff writer, Zach Baron. "I don't think I'm as revolutionary as Galileo, but I don't think I'm not as revolutionary as Galileo."
His comparison of himself to the renowned astronomer is just one of several bizarre quotes that Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's son told the men's magazine.
Here are five of the more notable point of views that the eccentric star shared:
1. Jaden and his 14-year-old sister, Willow Smith, have a Mystery School. "It dates back to like ancient Egypt, ancient Greece -- like Plato, Pythagoras, all these students had mystery schools. And what they learned in there was sacred," he explained. "They would learn the math and sciences of that generation, and then they would build the cities and give that energy and that knowledge to the other people. And a lot of stuff they would keep really, really to themselves. Like, you couldn't say the word dodecahedron, which is just a shape, outside of one of the mystery schools or they would, like, kill you or whatever. Because it was such a sacred shape."
2. The siblings are also "scientists," according to Jaden. "So everything for us is a scientific test upon humanity," he said. "And luckily we're put in a position where we can affect large groups of human beings at one time."
3. Jaden likes to build stuff. "Like, the clothes I'm wearing right now, done it on my own," he boasted to GQ. "I built my own bed, I built my own closet, um, I built two closets, I built four beds, I built, um, one pyramid..."
The After Earth star added, "It's at my parents' house. Half of a pyramid. The tip is missing, but the whole structural thing is built, and it sits at 12.5 feet tall."
4. Jaden plans to go off the grid. "No one will know where I am in 10 years. They'll see me pop up, but they'll be like, 'Where'd you come from?' No one will know where I'm at," he said. "I've been planning that since I was like 13. ...It'll be kind of like Banksy. But in a different way. More of a social impact. Helping people. But through art installations."
5. He's not a socialite. "I rarely go to parties," Jaden, who was recently seen out during New York Fashion Week, said. "My whole life is just dedicated on learning and breaking, like, the craziest records of life, and being like one of the craziest human beings to ever exist. That's me."
Jaden has always been opinionated. Even back in 2013 when he was just 14 years old, he critiqued his favorite father's red-carpet style for ET.

Scientists have created a new breed of stronger, faster dogs using DNA manipulation

By Brad Reed

If you’ve ever read recent dystopian sci-fi books such as Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake or Paolo Bacigalupi’s The Windup Girl, you’d know that one of their common predictions is that in the future genetically mutated super animals will run amok and make day-to-day life very dangerous for the world’s remaining humans. Now Technology Review brings us word that scientists in China claim to have used DNA manipulation to create a stronger, faster breed of dogs that will ominously be used for various police and military operations.
Gulp.
It seems that there’s a mutation that naturally occurs in whippets’ myostatin genes that causes them to gain significant muscle bulk. Researchers in China have figured out how to simulate this gene mutation in other breeds of dogs and have used it to create beagles that have twice the normal muscle mass.
“[The dogs have] more muscles and are expected to have stronger running ability, which is good for hunting, police (military) applications,” Liangxue Lai, a researcher with the Key Laboratory of Regenerative Biology at the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, explained in an email to Technology Review.
Although Lai and his fellow researchers don’t plan to breed these super beagles for commercial use, their research does open the door for other groups to create and sell genetically modified pets.
What’s particularly freaky about this research is the way that they got these dogs to bulk up: They essentially injected a chemical agent into dog embryos that is designed to destroy the dogs’ myostatin genes that naturally inhibit their muscle growth. Apparently, the effects of removing this gene have been well studied and there aren’t any known averse impacts of removing it but… it’s nonetheless a wee bit disconcerting.
To learn much more about the science behind this crazy DNA manipulation, check out Technology Review’s full report here.

Soccer-Chelsea boss Mourinho calls FA fine a "disgrace" and explains why he is jealous of Arsene Wenger

Reuters
LONDON, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has described his Football Association fine as a "disgrace" and branded his suspended one-match stadium ban "astonishing" after his comments about referees, British media reported on Thursday.
Mourinho was fined 50,000 pounds ($77,425) and threatened with a future stadium ban on Wednesday for saying referees were afraid to award penalties to the Premier League champions after Chelsea's 3-1 home defeat by Southampton on Oct. 3.
"I'm happy I don't have an electronic tag," the Portuguese was quoted as saying on Thursday. "50,000 pounds is a disgrace. The possibility of getting a stadium ban is astonishing."
The FA said the stadium ban would be invoked should Mourinho commit a similar offence in the next 12 months.
Mourinho attacked English soccer's governing body at a launch event for his new book where he also continued his long-running verbal battle with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
The Chelsea boss appeared to criticise the FA's decision not to punish Wenger for calling referee Mike Dean "weak" and "naive" following Arsenal's 2-0 defeat by Chelsea last month.
Wenger also escaped without punishment when he pushed Mourinho in the technical area in October 2014.
"Afraid costs 50,000 pounds. Weak and naive -- you can do it," Mourinho added. "We can push people in the technical area. We can, no problem."
Chelsea, whose poor start to the season has left them languishing in 16th place after eight games, 10 points adrift of leaders Manchester City, host Aston Villa on Saturday.

Drake Reveals His One Relationship Deal Breaker and Serena Williams Doesn't Fit the Bill

By Sophie Schillaci
So you want to get romantic with Drake? American girls need not apply.
The Toronto native let slip his surprising relationship deal breaker in an interview with W Magazine, hitting newsstands on Oct. 27.
"Most people I know stay in Toronto. I plan to spend the rest of my life there. The talk, the smell, the sound that comes out of that city is home to me," the rapper said. "When I think about the girls I want to get romantic with, it's a girl from Toronto who knows what I'm talking about when we drive around the city."
So, despite rumors of an engagement between Drake and Serena Williams hitting the web last week (a rep for the tennis pro told ET that the pair "are simply longtime friends") -- a romantic future seems unlikely between the Canadian rapper and the Michigan native.
The former Degrassi star also revealed his desire to break back into the world of scripted programming. "I can't wait to get back into acting," he told the mag. "No one ever asks me to do movies, and, although music is my focal point now, I'd love to do a film. That was the life that I lived before, and it would be interesting to live it again."
Drake also claimed he was "kicked off" Degrassi for attempting to juggle his on-screen duties with a recording career. "Back then, I'd spend a full day on set and then go to the studio to make music until 4 or 5 a.m. I'd sleep in my dressing room and then be in front of the cameras again by 9 a.m. Eventually, they realized I was juggling two professions and told me I had to choose," he said. "I chose this life."
And now, the 28-year-old is still chasing musical greatness.
"I'm always thinking, How do I top what I've done? How do I make this thing stronger? I ask myself, 'Why does Adele's album go diamond, and how do I do that? How do I create art that makes minds stretch further?'" he mused in the article. "I want to give many, many people many, many moments before I'm gone. That's truly the art of what I do. It's the only goal."
That doesn't mean Drake can't have a little bit of fun while he's at it!

"Batman v Superman" Costume Designer Offers New, Closer Look at the Golden Trio

By Megan Damore
In an interview with DC All Access, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" costume designer Michael Wilkinson revealed hidden details in Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman's outfits.
"We made sure we did our homework and looked into the histories of all these characters," he shared, adding it took a year to develop the costumes.
For instance, he pointed out the Kryptonian script hidden in Superman's costume. "Zack [Snyder] actually loved the idea that there was some Kryptonian script embedded in the suit," he explained. He gave me this fantastic quote he wanted us to translate into Kryptonian and incorporate it into the suit. It sort of deals with the nature of power and responsibility."
Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled to open on March 25, 2016.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are in negotiations for a rematch

mayweather pacquiao(Ethan Miller/Getty Images) Just when it felt like any hopes for a Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao rematch were dead, Pacquiao himself threw the boxing world for a loop by saying he is in negotiations with Mayweather for a rematch, according to an AFP report.
Pacquiao announced that he wants to fight one more time before hanging up his gloves for good and pursuing a full-time career early next year as a politician in his native Philippines, a timetable that seemed to make a rematch unlikely.
However, Pacquiao told AFP that not only is the rematch possible, but confirmed talks are ongoing with Mayweather and one other fighter.
Pacquiao confirmed he is in negotiations with American Mayweather and Briton [Amir] Khan but said he had no preference over who to fight ... "I will fight anybody, anywhere," he said. "I am going to fight probably before the election ... The election is coming next year, May, and before that I will probably have one fight."
With any potential fight needing to happen before the elections in May and Mayweather in retirement and seemingly in no hurry to return to the ring, it seemed unlikely that a rematch could happen. However, if there was one thing that made the rematch still seem possible it was the money and how much each fighter would be leaving on the table if they couldn't reach a deal on a rematch.
Their highly-anticipated bout earlier this year shattered all the records for a boxing match, generating nearly $600 million in revenue and making the fighters the two highest-paid athletes in the world. Even if a rematch generated only half of that interest, that is still a lot of money for both fighters, money they won't make anywhere else.
Adding to the intrigue and potential riches is the idea that neither fighter is contractually tied to a venue in Las Vegas. According to the AFP report, Pacquiao told Al Jazeera his last fight could happen in one of the wealthy Persian Gulf states.
Earlier this week, Pacquiao talked about his political ambitions, a career that would likely make returning to the ring impossible past May of next year.
"I think I'm ready (to retire). I've been in boxing for more than 20 years," Pacquiao said in an interview with the ABS-CBN television network. "I will have to give up the other things that require my attention. If you are a senator, your focus should only be your job and your family."
According to the AFP report, polls have Pacquiao winning one of the 12 senate seats up for grabs, and he has vowed to be a "serious" senator despite recent reports that he missed 66 of 70 legislative sessions this year while serving as a local congressman.

Steve Jobs used to ask Jony Ive the same question almost every day

Jony Ive on stage at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit
Steve Jobs once called Apple design chief Jony Ive his "spiritual partner" and the two execs had an incredibly close professional and personal relationship.  When Ive remembers his friend and coworker four years after Jobs' death, what stands out is the Apple cofounder's ability to stay completely and utterly focused on whatever he was working on.
Ive says that he never managed to achieve the same level of focus as Jobs had, but that the daily exercise helped him realize how satisfying it could be to say no.
Nearly every day, Jobs would ask Ive the same question.
"He would try to help me improve my focus by asking me, 'How many times did you say no today?'" Ive said onstage at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit.
In Jobs' opinion, the more "no's" the better. To have extreme, laser-like focus, he was always willing to reject a lot of opportunities, even if they sounded great.
"The discipline to turn your back on something you believe in passionately so you can apply yourself to what's at hand is really remarkable," Ive said. "It's a deeply uncomfortable but really effective thing to do. It’s more than a practice, it’s more than a habit… it’s a really wonderful ability."
He was humble about his level of focus compared to Jobs' on stage, but Jobs once said Ive was "the most focused human being I've come across."
Ive also talked about his new job and the stress of the creation process.
"'Tortured' doesn’t even begin to capture it," he said

Marvel reshuffles Phase 3, announces ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ and three untitled films for 2020

By

Feeling burnt out from all the comic book movies? Well, they say there’s no rest for the weary, as Marvel on Thursday announced it’s reshuffling Phase 3 again, adding Ant-Man and the Wasp and a trio of mysterious titles on through November 2020. What can these projects be? Your guess is as good as ours—the big news here is that Marvel loved Ant-Man enough to give the tiny superhero another standalone movie. Looks like he’s going to be a much bigger part of the MCU than we originally thought.
Marvel says that Ant-Man and the Wasp has been set for a July 6, 2018 release, which was originally when we expected Black Panther. Speaking of Black Panther, that film has actually been moved up to Feb. 16, 2018, which gives us three Marvel movies that year; Captain Marvel was originally scheduled to come out in 2018, but has since been pushed back to March 8, 2019. Confused? Keep up, because you’re going to see a lot of Marvel over the next five years.
Starting in 2017, Marvel is going to release three movies a year, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man and Thor: Ragnarok in 2017; Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, and Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018; Captain Marvel, Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, and Inhumans in 2019; and the three mysterious titles in 2020. Those could be entirely new character films, or they could simply be sequels for Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Black Panther.
Marvel has a lot to play with over the coming years, and the studio clearly isn’t afraid to shuffle things around. In total, we’re going to get 14 movies in Phase 3, and based on how Marvel is building toward the Infinity War conclusion, we could see an announcement of a Phase 4 in the next year or two.
“Stay tuned to marvel.com for more exciting announcements on Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future,” Marvel said.

Kris Jenner Says Her Most Embarrassing Moment With Caitlyn Jenner Was Joining Mile-High Club

By Raphael Chestang
When you're a Kardashian or a Jenner, there's no such thing as oversharing.
Matriarch Kris Jenner was joined by all her daughters -- Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, and Kendall and Kylie Jenner -- for the cover of Cosmopolitan's 50th anniversary issue, hitting newsstands Oct. 13.
Inside the pages of the magazine, Cosmopolitan digs beneath the surface of the family to get the stories that fans have never heard.
"The most embarrassing moment for me was when I was with [Caitlyn (formerly Bruce)] on a commercial airliner in first class. We joined the mile-high club and we felt we got away with it," Kris says in a behind-the-scenes clip. "We had sex in the bathroom and we came out and nobody said anything. At the end of the flight, the flight attendant got on the microphone. 'Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Jenner! You've just joined the mile-high club. We're so proud of you, and we decided to give you a bottle of champagne! Yay!' I could not squish down in my seat low enough. I was mortified."
It's no secret this clan has some outrageous stories, but it's the headline on Cosmopolitan's cover that's putting subscribers in an uproar. The title dubs them "America's First Family," causing some readers to threaten to cancel their subscriptions. Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Joanna Coles explains the move to ET.
"We were being tongue-in-cheek and an enormous controversy has come from this," Coles says. "We have also heard from within the White House. I am reliably informed that the actual first family is amused by this and have no intention on giving up their bedrooms in the White House for the Kardashians."
Caitlyn Jenner is the only female member of the family not included in the cover photo, which was reportedly the first time that the group of ladies was in the same studio together since 2011.
The magazine dedicates 16 pages to the reality family, who couldn't have been happier with the results.
"Happy 50th birthday @cosmopolitan!!!" Kris posted on Instagram. "So honored to be on the November cover with my girls!!"

Google rewarded the guy who bought Google.com, and he donated it all to charity

Business Insider
Google rewarded the guy who bought Google.com, and he donated it all to charity(Sanmay Ved) Sanmay Ved bought Google.com for a minute, but donated his reward to charity.
Sanmay Ved thought his real reward was just being the guy who bought Google.com for a minute. When Google first told him he wouldn't get any money as a result of the accidental transaction, he said it was fine — he'd rather it be donated to charity anyways.
"I don’t care about the money. It was never about the money," Ved told Business Insider. "I also want to set an example that it’s people who want to find bugs that it’s not always about the money."
Google changed its mind after acknowledging that he had managed to buy the domain name and decided to actually double Ved's reward since he was giving it to charity.
In a stroke of luck, Ved had been searching Google Domains, Google's website-buying service, when he noticed that Google.com was available for purchase on Sept. 29.
Ved bought the domain for $12 and, he claims, momentarily gained access to its webmaster tools before Google canceled the sale. An ex-Googler himself (Ved loves Google so much that he has set it as his Facebook profile photo), Ved said it was never about the money or collecting it. Google does routinely reward people who discover hiccups in Google's system as part of it security vulnerabilities program.
Ved chose to donate his reward to an Indian foundation that focuses on bringing education to the slums. He won't disclose the amount Google awarded him, only hinting that it's at least "more than ten thousand."
Since he's donating it to charity, Google offered to double the amount that will go to The Art of Living India
It's a cause close to the heart of the MBA student at Babson College: "I'm kind of a proponent for education."

Check out Ant-Man’s new suit for ‘Captain America: Civil War’

By

Ever since filming for Captain America: Civil War wrapped up, things have been pretty quiet in the Marvel universe. However, it looks like some promotional art for the film has leaked out, and while it doesn’t give us much, we do get a very good glimpse at Ant-Man’s new suit, which looks less like a motorcycle suit and more armor-like than ever.
Working from the top down, Ant-Man’s helmet no longer has red stripes on the forehead, while the jawline converges into a single mouthpiece; the old one had a few different vent-like circles where the mouth is. Meanwhile, there is more armor over the shoulders and over the chest, while the bracers have been redesigned as well.
There’s no belt either, and the legs feature a bit more red to kind of balance out the look. The changes are subtle, but reflect Ant-Man’s stature as a superhero and his evolving role within the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe. We already know he’s going to show up in Civil War, but it’s unclear just how big his role will be.
Check out the image above (along with the other concept art) to see what’s changed, and compare it for yourself next to images from the Ant-Man movie. And before we go, it also appears as though Iron Man will indeed wear his Bleeding Edge armor in Civil War, which has been hinted at in earlier set photos.

Nicki Minaj Generously Explains What’s Bad About Miley Cyrus

By

One month after the semi-fueding, semi-apologetic holy trinity of pop — Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift — faced each other under one roof for the 2015 VMAs, the New York Times's Vanessa Grigoriadis sat down with Minaj to finish the conversation she started on stage that night.
Here's the most condensed of event recaps: Well before the award show, Nicki expressed her disappointment in MTV's failure to nominate her "Anaconda" video; Swift took the comments, which included "If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated," personally; and Cyrus pointedly dissed Minaj in her pre-VMA interview. In front of a captive audience, Minaj called the ex-Disney star out, announcing, "This bitch that had a lot to say about the other day in the press." Cyrus tried weakly to answer Minaj's implication, "Miley, what's good?"
The "fued" has been discussed ad nauseam on Twitter, in blogs, and elsewhere, but Minaj took a moment in the interview to hold the public's hand and walk us through the reason behind her frustration. It's a striking statement:
The fact that you feel upset about me speaking on something that affects black women makes me feel like you have some big balls. You're in videos with black men, and you're blurring out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important? Come on, you can’t want the good without the bad. If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us, have fun with us, twerk with us, rap with us, then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us. You shouldn’t not want to know that.
Minaj's advice will most likely go unanswered by the Miley camp, but there is a chance it'll prevent the VMA host from speaking against Nicki without knowing the whole story.
As if clarifying why one of the most famous personalities in pop's whole schtick is deeply flawed wasn't enough, Minaj also completely ended her interviewer. Continue reading the article to see exactly how the rapper ejects reporters from an interview when it takes a turn she doesn't like. We imagine that Grigoriadis filed her NYT story and then crawled off to a hole in the ground somewhere, never to participate in humanity again.
