Marvel reshuffles Phase 3, announces ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ and three untitled films for 2020

By

Feeling burnt out from all the comic book movies? Well, they say there’s no rest for the weary, as Marvel on Thursday announced it’s reshuffling Phase 3 again, adding Ant-Man and the Wasp and a trio of mysterious titles on through November 2020. What can these projects be? Your guess is as good as ours—the big news here is that Marvel loved Ant-Man enough to give the tiny superhero another standalone movie. Looks like he’s going to be a much bigger part of the MCU than we originally thought.
Marvel says that Ant-Man and the Wasp has been set for a July 6, 2018 release, which was originally when we expected Black Panther. Speaking of Black Panther, that film has actually been moved up to Feb. 16, 2018, which gives us three Marvel movies that year; Captain Marvel was originally scheduled to come out in 2018, but has since been pushed back to March 8, 2019. Confused? Keep up, because you’re going to see a lot of Marvel over the next five years.
Starting in 2017, Marvel is going to release three movies a year, with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man and Thor: Ragnarok in 2017; Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, and Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018; Captain Marvel, Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, and Inhumans in 2019; and the three mysterious titles in 2020. Those could be entirely new character films, or they could simply be sequels for Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel and Black Panther.
Marvel has a lot to play with over the coming years, and the studio clearly isn’t afraid to shuffle things around. In total, we’re going to get 14 movies in Phase 3, and based on how Marvel is building toward the Infinity War conclusion, we could see an announcement of a Phase 4 in the next year or two.
“Stay tuned to marvel.com for more exciting announcements on Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future,” Marvel said.
